Horst will be honored at a celebration of his life on March 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Bellevue Club in Bellevue, Washington. Horst is survived by his wife Eva, sons Michael (Mariam) and Mark (Jaimee), and grandchildren Peyton, Catherine, Alex, and Sunny. He was arguably the best trout fisherman on Lake Washington, and if you were lucky enough to accompany him on an outing, you bore witness not only to his fish-whispering magic, but also to the fundamental goodness and peace of his soul. His great passions apart from his family were fishing and tending his garden. Later in life he loved spending time at the Bellevue Club, where he worked out, played chess and ping-pong with friends, and relished the free coffee in the locker room. Horst was an accomplished tennis player and bicyclist. His blend of work ethic, deep kindness, and competitive spirit made him an exemplary role-model for his sons, both professionally and personally. ![]() He took great care to provide his family with the stability that allowed them to flourish and grow. He participated in and was a front-line witness to the sweeping social and technological changes of the late 20th century. Horst grew up in lean times, living through wartime Germany and the Allied occupation as a child. The family spent time in England and Germany, where his sons Michael and Mark absorbed their parents' multifaceted international perspective and mindset. The twin trends of technology and globalization defined his work, and he traveled the world extensively opening up new markets. He led sales and marketing for Tally Corporation and later Data I/O. He and Eva were married in 1966, and moved to Seattle, where Horst began his career in the then-nascent Seattle technology industry. The young singer has been traveling the last 3 years from Romania and Ireland to France and Denmark, to the US and at the moment she is based in Seoul, South Korea. Her powerful yet gentle songs enchant with meaningful lyrics reflecting her travels and thoughts. He studied business and economics at the Universities of Freiburg, Erlangen-Nurnberg, and Berlin, where he met Eva, a visiting American post-grad. Lisa Trebs is a young singer/songwriter from Leipzig/Germany. He was born the youngest of three boys to Conrad and Hermine Mader in the town of Husum, Germany, bordering the North Sea. He died peacefully with his wife Eva holding his hand. Horst Mader passed away on Januat the age of 84, at Covenant Living on Mercer Island, Washington, near his Bellevue home of almost 50 years. ![]()
